Simulating a Power Outage with Tesla Powerwall 3
how long do you think this Tesla power wall 3 will be able to power our entire home for let's find out and we're actually going to take this one step further by mimicking a true outage and manually disconnecting from the grid now normally all these beautiful solar panels on the roof would be powering our home right now but for the sake of this video I've got them turned off so it's currently 1:30 p.m. and our power wall is on 100% and everything in the house is still working obviously we can turn the induction on get this one going on full we've now got the toast in the oven power wall is still on 100% And I'm obviously not going to be plugging the car in while we're in off- Grid mode now unfortunately it is quite hot today so we're going to have to put the airon on it's probably not something you would do in a real outage but it will also put the system to the test and being a power wall 3 it can actually handle above 10 KW of power into the home so this will run our entire ducted airon system throughout the house
Mid-Test Update
so much to my surprise it's been over 4 hours and and it's still saying that we've got about 20 hours of backup remaining and now we've got a storm passing over which is not great timing so it's 8:30 p.m. and the power wall is sitting just below 50% which is actually pretty good so we should be able to make it to the morning
Conclusion of the Powerwall 3 Test
all right so it's 7:30 in the morning and the power wall has dropped to 10% the app actually says reduce power immediately so it's 8:00 a.m. and I've just got the notification that power wall has stopped providing power to the house at 5% so there you go it lasted 18 hours and 30 minutes and I'm going to switch back on the solar now and let the power wall charge back up

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a monthly cost for a Tesla Powerwall?
No, there isn't typically a recurring monthly fee for the Tesla Powerwall itself. The primary costs are the upfront purchase and installation. However, if you finance the system, your loan payments would be a monthly expense.
What factors influence the overall cost of owning a Tesla Powerwall?
While there's no inherent "monthly cost" for the device, your overall monthly expenses can be influenced by financing payments, potential savings on your electricity bill (which can offset costs), and any grid service programs you participate in (like virtual power plants) which might offer compensation. Maintenance costs are generally low, as the Powerwall is designed for long-term, hands-off operation.
Does the Powerwall subscription model affect its monthly cost?
Tesla Powerwall is typically sold as a direct purchase and installation, not a subscription. Therefore, there isn't a subscription model that dictates a monthly cost for the hardware. Any "subscription-like" arrangements would usually pertain to specific grid services or virtual power plant programs, which are optional and often provide benefits or compensation, rather than charging a monthly fee for the Powerwall itself.
